Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the role of media awareness among the residents of Jalalabad city, to identify how effective the media are in enhancing knowledge, shaping behavior, and raising public awareness regarding the proper use of medicines. The topic is important because the misuse of medicines poses serious health risks, while the media are considered effective tools in reducing this problem through public awareness. The central research question was: "To what extent is the media effective in improving the knowledge and behavior of Jalalabad residents regarding the proper use of medicines?" The research followed a quantitative and descriptive-analytical method. Data was collected through online Google Forms, and participants were selected through non-probability sampling (convenience sampling). Out of the targeted 385 respondents, 231 participants completed the questionnaire, representing residents from different educational levels. The collected data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, employing statistical tables and percentage calculations to examine participants’ views. The findings indicate that the majority of participants believe the media provide information on both the proper and improper use of medicines, help reduce misconceptions, encourage adherence to prescriptions and correct timing of medicine intake, and serve as effective tools for the rapid dissemination of health information. Overall, the media plays a positive role in raising public awareness, correcting health-related behavior, and reducing the risks associated with the misuse of medicines.
